We are taking bookings in anticipation of being able to re open soon.

There should be an update on 30 December 2020.

WE’RE GOOD TO GO

Following the government announcement on Tuesday we are all ready to re open. Risk assessments have been completed, strict cleaning procedures have been put in place and we have received the Visit Britain We’re Good To Go certification. This is awarded to businesses that have successfully applied for the We’re Good to Go Industry Standard.
The barns will look a little different from usual. Safety measures have required businesses to remove items which cannot be easily cleaned such as books, maps, information etc. Strict cleaning protocols will be in place. Guests will be asked to do their bit to keep others safe such as stripping their own beds, filling the dishwasher and opening all the windows before they leave.
Following guidelines will be essential to keep everyone safe and enjoy their stay with us.
The attractions that our guests love to visit are gradually opening and so are the cafes and bars. Yes of course there are restrictions but everyone is working very hard to make the visitor experience to the Peak District

as good as it can be in these strange times

When are we re opening?

Just giving everyone an update on the latest information about when we may be able to welcome guests back to Tom and Douglas Barns.

Following the announcements by the Prime Minister on Sunday evening the Government has published a recovery roadmap, The document states that the 4 July 2020 is the  potential re opening date for the hospitality sector. This includes accommodation and attractions.

We are continuing to work hard with Business Peak District and VisitBritain on the proposals for recovery. We are awaiting guidance on what will be required and a kitemark being developed to reassure visitors of cleanliness and responsible practices.

Business Peak District is also working closely with shops and attractions to put in place adjustments that will help them being able to open.

Car parks have already opened but the facilities at car parks will not all be open.

As soon as we have any further update we will share it with you.

Stay Safe

The sun is still shining ,hope all is well where you are!

No news yet on when we may be able to re open. The measures being taken seem to be working so keeping fingers crossed that we are going to manage to meet this awful virus and be able to resume some sort of normality. Think it will be a long to time before leisure and hospitality will be able to open their doors but when they do we will be ready and waiting. Here at Orchard Farm we are keeping the barns clean and well aired and the gardens are getting as much attention as ever so we will be able to share some photos of those as we move through the seasons. It is really quite in Parwich with no visitors but fortunately we are a close knit community that are supporting each other through it. Lets hope the local businesses are able to survive ready for the visitors when they are able to return. The pub is keeping going expanding the range of supplies in the shop. They are providing a take away food service which is very welcome and the Royal British Legion is supplying beer if you take your own container.

We hope that you are all ok where you are and that you have the support you need to get you through this. We will get there and come out of it a lot stronger than we went into it. Just look at Captain Tom. His attitude to this has been so encouraging, he has seen war and all sorts of things which has given him the strength and determination to achieve.

The sun is still shining here in Parwich. Stay Safe and hope to see you soon.

Temporary closure due to the Coronavirus Pandemic

It is with regret that we are closing Tom’s Barn and Douglas’s Barn for at least 3 weeks. The PM’s address to the nation Monday 23 March 2020 outlined the importance of people staying at home except for a very limited purpose. We need to act responsibly and advise guests that have a booking with us between now and the end of April that we are temporarily closed.

Most of the guests we have contacted want to move their booking to later in the year which is so encouraging. It means that people are focused on getting over these awful times and are looking forward to and planning a break away in Parwich and he Peak District.

We thank you all for your support and look forward to seeing you in the not too distant future.

Take care everyone, stay safe, which will help others especially our dedicated NHS staff.

Tom and Douglas’s Barns are open for business

I would like to re assure guest that have a booking with us and those people that are considering getting away from it all that it is business as usual here. We are paying particular attention to cleaning, each barn now undergoing a double cleaning regime after guests leave. The Sycamore pub is open for business and the shop is being kept well stocked with most things. Fresh bread is available every day and a take away service is available should guests want to eat in the barn and not in the pub. Ashbourne and other towns and villages also continue to operate within Government and Health guidelines

We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful part of England that seems a mile away from what is happening to the whole world.

Everyone is welcome and I am sure people will be sensible. As a holiday home owner I have a responsibility to make sure that I do not encourage people to visit Parwich and the barns if they think they may be infected or are showing signs of Coronavirus.

Make sure you all keep safe and hope to see many more guests here soon.

The start of another season at Tom and Douglas’s Barns

The barns had a few post Christmas visitors and then we closed to do our annual paint and spring clean. All spick and span as ever and welcoming new and returning guests. Lots of bookings coming in so looking forward to welcoming another year of returning and new guests. We have decided not to increase our prices again this year which make us very competitive with all the other holiday properties around us. Tom and Douglas’s Barns have one of the best situations in Parwich, its quite, no through road as such so, all there is to hear is the birds and the bleating of the baby lambs.

The snowdrops are out everywhere and Hopton Hall is open and well worth a visit to see snowdrops in abundance. The weather has been quite good to us so far this year although this weekend and today have been a bit of a challenge. The snow has mostly melted now due to a lovely bit of sunshine this afternoon but the views early on were sunning.

Hoping to see more returning guests this year. Give me a call if you want to stay and cant see availability or if you just want a chat.
