Where We Are

  -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We are very fortunate in that Parwich, although tucked away from any main road itself, is almost literally in the heart of England. People come to us from all four corners: from Devon and Cornwall to Scotland, from the north-east to deepest Kent! See potted directions below.

We keep thinking it would be interesting to plot a chart to see where the majority of our guests do come from. Many come up from London and the Home Counties and are invariably surprised how close we are (except on a wet and dark winter’s night coming up the M1!). They are always amazed that such a striking contrast to their metropolitan lives is so relatively close.

Another thing that always pleases us is how many of our guests keep coming back from the neighbouring counties of Lincolnshire, Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Cheshire and Staffordshire, invariably delighted to have found such a peaceful, beautiful and comfortable retreat so easily reached after work on a Friday.

A month before our guests arrive we always send a map of the village, with arrows and directions to guide you safely here. It is actually very simple, but new road signs and warnings of ‘Changed Priorities’ do their best to confuse matters!

M1 from the North

Leave the M1 at junction 28. Take the A38 towards Derby. After a few miles, leave at the Ripley turn off and take the A610 towards Ambergate. When the A610 meets the A6 take a right turn towards Matlock. At Cromford traffic Lights, a few miles short of Matlock Bath turn left towards Wirksworth on the B5036. After 400m take the right hand turn towards Newhaven and Buxton on the A5012. After approximately 3 miles turn left at a Crossroads signposted to Ashbourne on the B5056. After approximately 3 miles take a right turn signposted Parwich & Ballidon, and left again, at a sign marked Parwich ¾ quite soon. Village directions to the barns are below.

M1 from the South

Leave M1 at junction 24a. Take the A50 towards Stoke On Trent. After approximately 20 miles, take the A515 to Ashbourne.

Go straight through Ashbourne, up through the market place, taking the A515 towards Buxton. After approximately 2 miles, turn right at the Bentley Brook on the B5056 towards Bakewell, Ballidon & Longcliffe. After about 3½ miles, turn left to Parwich & Ballidon, and left again, at a sign marked Parwich ¾ quite soon. Village directions to the barns are below.

M5 / M6 from the South

Leave junction 15 of the M6 and take the A50 east for approximately 20 miles passing Stoke on Trent and Uttoxeter. Turn left on the A515 towards Ashbourne.

Directions in the Village

As you enter the village you'll see the Parwich and 30 MPH signs etc. Immediately turn right at the signs indicating a right turn, with signs saying Changed Priorities, and Playground. Essentially - in spite of the road markings - keep straight ahead, giving way right twice, pointing up the hill for a couple of hundred yards until – just after passing Croft Avenue on your left you see a small grassy triangle with a road narrows sign, beside the entrance to Court House. Veer right here. The lane passes the entrance to Church Farm on the right and immediately bends round to the right. Having passed two modern bungalows, you will see on your right a black and rusty hay barn looming. This is us, and the next gate is the main Orchard Farm entrance. Carry on round the back of the building and the Tom’s Barn and Douglas’s Barn gateway is the next one on the right.

Whatever happens, Orchard Farm is the third property on the right, and the barns’ gate is the fourth gateway.
