Mary's Meals

This is a small but very worthwhile charity which runs school feeding projects in fifteen of the world's poorest countries.

We have pledged to give them any commission we receive if our guests take out Holiday Cancellation Insurance with the Pavey Group.

On 16th Jan 2010 we made a Gift Aid payment of £10.11- the amount we received from Pavey and rather shockingly, enough to feed a child for over a year.

Our green commitment:

We are concerned about the environment and our effect upon it.

 

When we converted our very decrepit redundant farm buildings, our vision was to restore the lovely limestone buildings as sympathetically as possible and to offer exceptional self-catering accommodation within the beautiful Peak District National Park, whilst making a minimal impact on the environment and local wildlife.

 

Our environmental commitment was originally to ensure that we:

  • Protect the area we live in
  • Preserve the wildlife habitat
  • Become legislatively compliant
  • Reduce operating costs
  • Enhance our reputation and indirectly that of the whole area
  • Support local individuals, tradesmen, shops  and suppliers
  • Continue actively to support local community activities and charities
  • Are committed to improving our policy and actions constantly

Since then we have implemented a waste and recycling policy, a more efficient storage system for rain water, a transport and purchasing policy and many energy saving initiatives. We will do more!

 

As a small business we are aware that our activities can cause harm to the environment and we take steps to minimise this effect. We encourage our guests to be ‘green’ during their stay and we ensure that information and facilities are on hand to make this easy.

 

We constantly strive to manage Orchard Farm and our own lives in the most energy-efficient way.

How to Book


2. Please check availability for the barn you'd like to book, for the dates you want. There are Vacancy Calendars for each barn on this and practically every page of the website.

3. Bear in mind that although we update availability regularly we can't guarantee it hasn't changed in the last few minutes! For that reason any booking you make must remain provisional until we personally have confirmed it. Rather confusingly you will get an automated acknowledgement of your booking; official confirmation can only be made by us personally, normally pretty quickly, by email.

4. Please be sure to read our Terms and Conditions. There is nothing startling or unexpected there, but a booking is a contract between you and us and it is important that you understand the expectations on both sides.

To book online

  • Click on the relevant Vacancy Calendar
  • Identify the dates you want and click in the little box to the right of these dates
  • Click on the ‘Go to Booking Form’ button

To book by email

  • Send an email with the dates etc you want. We will reply confirming the dates are available.
  • Then we will agree what you will do next, either:
  • Download, print off and fill in the Booking Form (which we will email you) and send it with a cheque for the deposit. Or:
  • We will direct you to our online booking form.

 

To book by post

  • Ring us first to check the dates are free (it would be too slow by post) and provisionally book your dates
  • We will send you a booking form
  • You fill it in and return it with your deposit cheque

To book by telephone

  • Please ring us on +44 (0)1335 390 519; if we are not in please leave a (clear!) message.
  • If you haven't heard from us within an hour or two, please email, or ideally, ring the 01335 590 519 landline again and/or our mobile 07813 68 68 99 as the lines might be down, or we might be away briefly from the house.

 

How to Pay:

Online bookings:

  • By credit or debit card, or through PayPal. Please note, you do not need a PayPal account for this.
  • By credit or debit card online: you fill in your card details which we then put through our machine. After the payment is processed the numbers are masked, so you will have to send them again for any other payment.

Email and Telephone Bookings:

  • By debit/credit card over the phone
  • Cheque
  • Internet banking

 

Prices for 2011

Please note that any bookings taken this year for 2011 go at 2010 prices.

We will continue to give a 5% discount on the current price to all our many returning guests who book a week. In effect this means the price remains at last year's rate - that can't be bad!

Last Minute Availability

In the rare instance of a last minute booking, we would expect an immediate credit/debit card payment

Short Breaks

October to March inclusive we offer 3 or 4-night short breaks, which can be booked in advance.
3 nights: Fri/Sat/Sun nights. 4 nights: Mon/Tues/Wed/Thurs nights.

Please note that for short break holidays during the holiday 'High Season' (weeks in bold above) we can't accept bookings more than 4 weeks in advance of the start date unless the week in question is still free 4 weeks before the start date.

The price for short breaks, when available, is approximately 70% of the rate for the relevant week, rounded up or down as seems simplest so we're not dealing in fractions.

Holiday Cancellation Insurance

Other Information

  • Dogs and other domestic pets: We allow well-behaved pets (by prior arrangement only) in Tom's Barn. Douglas' Barn is pet-free. There is a separate charge of £20 per week/short break (increasing to £25 for all bookings for 2011 onward) each for dogs and other domestic pets.
  • There are no hidden extras: The rent includes duvets, bed linen, towels, electricity, firewood, central heating and use of the telephone (although we have an 'honesty' box for any outgoing calls). Obviously newspapers ordered by you (see below) are to be paid for but anything you find in the barn is provided by us for you.
  • We can now arrange for the newspaper of your choice to be delivered in the morning, in time for a leisurely read over breakfast.
  • Access: Tom's Barn and Douglas' Barn are not suitable for toddlers, children or disabled adults (open stairs, bath up steps, galleried bedroom and pond in main garden ....) Young (immobile) babies are welcome.
  • Deposit: To secure a booking we need a deposit of £100. The full amount is payable six weeks (42 days) before arrival.
  • Cancellations: If you have to cancel the booking we will return the fee only if/when we are able to re-let the week. We strongly recommend taking out holiday cancellation insurance.
  • Friday start day: Our start day is Friday.
  • Times of arrival and departure: Please arrive any time after 3.00p.m. onwards; and we do ask you to please leave by 10.00a.m. on the morning of your departure.
