The barns have had a facelift

Decided it was time to give the outside of the barns a bit of a face lift. We have replaced all the barn doors, all the exterior has been repainted, new furniture outside and new parasols t shade that lovely sun that we are still getting. A big thank you to all the skilled trade people that have done the work and to Janet and Louise for making sure they were all nice and clean and ready for today’s guests. Really pleased with the outcome, the paint is a few shades lighter but think it suits the barns.

Tom’s Barn available after a cancellation

Due to a health issue one of our soon to arrive guests has had to cancel so Tom’s Barn is available for a sneaky Autumn break.Bank holiday week is available and what better than to spend in the lovely surrounding countryside village of Parwich. If previous years are to go by the weather should still be warm and if it does go chilly the log burner will keep you toasty warm.

Izzy arrives at Orchard Farm

Ever since we moved here we have wanted a dog, the farm just calls out for one. We have lots of guests that bring their dogs and each time we said we need to get on of our own. Well here she is Sunshine Honeybeam otherwise known as Izzy. She is a wired haired Vizsla and like a lot of people we had not heard of the bread until we were watching Country file one week and Adam Henson was on with his two lovely dogs. The internet being a good source of information soon identified the breed. Finding a puppy of course didn’t prove that easy. Izzy is one of a litter of 5 and is just 8 weeks old. She is proving to be quite a character and loves people. She was born into a household with 3 other dogs so is already been socialised. Once she can go out it is off to puppy training classes. Can’t have well behaved dogs of the guests showing her up. The other good thing is that for those guests that do not have a dog there is one available to be borrowed. One guest did put in the comments book that the only thing missing here was a dog to loan if you didn’t have one of your own. Hope that lots of guests come back to meet her.

Lots going on at Orchard Farm

It has been really hot here as it has in most parts of the country. We are getting ready for Open Gardens next Sunday, 25 June 2017. The rose above the stone barn has prolific blooms that we are hoping will still be there at the end of the week. Lots of hot air balloons coming over and a few coming down rather low that you thought they were going to land in the garden. The new garden furniture is out and more important, new parasols to hide away from the mid-day sun. Hope you are all enjoying this lovely weather, lets hope it keeps going for a while.

RHS Chatsworth

Chatsworth House played host to RHS flower show for the 1st time this year. The setting is delightful and the show gardens all very natural which is lovely to see in this Peak District setting. Peak District Premier Cottages contributed to the sponsorship of the Experience Peak District garden which won a Silver Gilt medal. It was a great day out and something to put in the calendar for next year. www.chesterfield.co.uk/2017/06/quirky-cows-score-rhs-chatsworth/

Eroica Festival will soon be here.

The Eroica Festival will be taking place at Friden Grange between the 16 and 18 June 2017. This is one of the most popular events in the cycling and festival calendars and Tom’s and Douglas’s Barns are ideally placed being only 5 miles from the venue. You do not even need to get in the car if you fancy either cycling or walking there. The back lanes and High Peak trail will get you there without being hassled by traffic on the busy A515. There is plenty going on over the 3 days Live music including legendary 80’s icons ABC. If you want to join the bike ride on the Sunday you can choose a distance to suit your ability. The atmosphere is magic and you can be sure of a good send off at the start and being cheered home at the finish. How about getting dressed up or dressed down, always great fun and there are prizes for best in show. There is award winning food, Gin bars and boozers as well as premium vintage shopping. On the 18 June you will be treated to the Lancaster Bomber flying over Friden Grange, a return to the Peak District where the bomber practiced its dam-busting techniques at Derwent Dam. It all makes for a great weekend away and you will be able to relax each night in one of the cosy, well equipped barns.
