It has been really hot here as it has in most parts of the country. We are getting ready for Open Gardens next Sunday, 25 June 2017. The rose above the stone barn has prolific blooms that we are hoping will still be there at the end of the week. Lots of hot air balloons coming over and a few coming down rather low that you thought they were going to land in the garden. The new garden furniture is out and more important, new parasols to hide away from the mid-day sun. Hope you are all enjoying this lovely weather, lets hope it keeps going for a while.
Chatsworth House played host to RHS flower show for the 1st time this year. The setting is delightful and the show gardens all very natural which is lovely to see in this Peak District setting. Peak District Premier Cottages contributed to the sponsorship of the Experience Peak District garden which won a Silver Gilt medal. It was a great day out and something to put in the calendar for next year. www.chesterfield.co.uk/2017/06/quirky-cows-score-rhs-chatsworth/
The Eroica Festival will be taking place at Friden Grange between the 16 and 18 June 2017. This is one of the most popular events in the cycling and festival calendars and Tom’s and Douglas’s Barns are ideally placed being only 5 miles from the venue. You do not even need to get in the car if you fancy either cycling or walking there. The back lanes and High Peak trail will get you there without being hassled by traffic on the busy A515. There is plenty going on over the 3 days Live music including legendary 80’s icons ABC. If you want to join the bike ride on the Sunday you can choose a distance to suit your ability. The atmosphere is magic and you can be sure of a good send off at the start and being cheered home at the finish. How about getting dressed up or dressed down, always great fun and there are prizes for best in show. There is award winning food, Gin bars and boozers as well as premium vintage shopping. On the 18 June you will be treated to the Lancaster Bomber flying over Friden Grange, a return to the Peak District where the bomber practiced its dam-busting techniques at Derwent Dam. It all makes for a great weekend away and you will be able to relax each night in one of the cosy, well equipped barns.
Breaks are available in Douglas’s Barn at a 10% discounted rate between 1 May 2017 and 26 May 2017. A 3 day weekend break or 4 day mid week break is on offer for £410 and a 7 day beak at £625. Why not treat yourself for a few days away in the beautiful Peak District. Lots of walks or cycle routes, we can even lend you a bike. If you want more relaxed break there are plenty of interesting Derbyshire towns and villages to visit or wander around some the historic attractions such as Chatsworth House or Haddon Hall. There are lots of scrumptious cafes, tea shops and pubs so no need to cook!
Happy Easter to all our guests, past, present and future. Thought today’s guests in Tom’s Barn and Douglas’s Barn would appreciate special cakes.
Ashbourne’s first ever Thursday market in the new location of Civic Square has got off to a bustling start, with traders turning out early to await their first customers.
The new location, alongside Waitrose off Shaw Croft, is part of a trial to see if new life can be breathed into the Thursday market, which has seen fewer stall-holders every week and occasionally none at all.

PEAK’S RHS CHATSWORTH SHOW June 2017 – GARDEN DESIGN REVEALED.
Premier Cottages are one of the sponsers of the Peak District Garden so we are very excited about the design.
Fabulous landscapes and the formal gardens of the area’s many historic houses have inspired official tourist board Marketing Peak District & Derbyshire’s imaginative show garden at the first-ever RHS Chatsworth Flower Show.
RHS Chelsea Flower Show award winning designer Lee Bestall is the creative brain behind the Experience Peak District & Derbyshire Garden, one of a range of innovative floral features that will be visited by tens of thousands of visitors between 7 and 11 June 2017.
Lee, whose business Bestall & Co is based at Renishaw Hall & Gardens in north Derbyshire, has focused on the health-promoting and mood-boosting benefits of fresh air and fantastic views in his simple, yet striking design.
Rough grass, native trees and hand-painted cows representing the area’s landscapes lead through to the clipped topiary and herbaceous planting favoured by the Peak District and Derbyshire’s great country houses.
“We’re delighted with Lee’s design, which reflects the huge variety of the area’s natural and man-made landscapes and gardens in a relatively small space,” said tourist board Director Jo Dilley.
“Interest from visitors in the first-ever RHS Chatsworth Flower Show is high, and it will be a great opportunity to showcase the Peak District and Derbyshire to tens of thousands of people from both Britain and overseas.
We have just moved the outside tap to a new position which is lot more accessible for the guests. Great for washing boots, dogs and bikes.
Spring may not quite be here but it is a great time to for a visit to the Peak District. The weather has been quite mild here and although we have had some mixed weather, guests are still enjoying the beautiful surroundings. The evenings are getting longer and the countryside is starting to take on its springtime appearance. Douglas’s Barn is very warm and cosy and just the place for a quiet get away. The prices are being held at January rates until the 24 March so why not treat yourself to a few days away.
